Keyword tracker is a module for performing keyword research for an existing or a new site. Using this module you can easily pick the keywords that are relevant for your site, gather statistics on each word, and add them to profile.
The module comprises two tabs: Keyword Analyzer Tab and Report Tab.
Keyword Anayzer Tab
There are three options for keyword analysis here:
- Keywords statistics. The program queries services that provide statistics on keyword impressions, i. e. how many times this or that word was requested by actual searchers and the number of times the ad by this word was displayed (hereafter - keyword impressions). On analyzing the program returns:
- The list of relevant keywords
- The number of times every keyword was searched on SE
Select the check boxes of the keywords you would like to add to repository and then click Add. The program will analyze the KR (Keyword Rank) of each keyword and add them to the list. When analyzing KR the program uses a special formula which comprises the number of keyword impressions (how many times the keyword was requested by users), the number of results returned by Google for the query by this word (competition) and a special empirically obtained coefficient. The program is integrated with the following services for obtaining keywords statistics: Wordtracker free edition, Overture, Espotting, etc.
- Relevant Keywords Research. The program queries search engines and special services for the keywords relevant to the given. When clicking Add the program does not calculate the KR of the word, since no keyword impressions information is obtained. For getting relevant keywords the program uses Google AdWords service, Yahoo Search, AltaVista and some other.
- Keyword Harvester. A module that queries search engines for the given word, and on receiving results follows the URLs on the results page and scans meta-tags for presumably relevant keywords.
- Keyword Info Resources. This section contains links to some of the resources where you can obtain information on the keywords that are searched most often at the selected SE: Google Zeitgeist, Lycos Weekly Top 50, Yahoo Buzz Index, etc.
Below the selection window you can set the following additional options for keyword search (where available):
- If the service provides language filtering options select the primary language you would like for the results to be returned
- Select the maximum number of results to be analyzed
To perform a search by one of these types enter a keyword into the Add keyword field, select the search service that will be used for search and click Analyze. The program will connect to the service selected and extract the list of relevant keyword by the settings you have provided. If you perform the first type of search you will be able to view the keyword rank of the word.
Note: Keyword Rank will not be displayed if the Calculate KR check box is disabled.
As an additional option you can use the in-built Semantic filter for sorting out offensive language results. To enable the Semantic filter select Semantic filter check box above the repository window. To add the keywords to the Profile settings select the check boxes of the entries to be added and click Add selected to the profile.
Keyword Rank
The keyword rank is calculated by the following formula:
where
- KR - Keyword Rank;
- p - the popularity of the word; it is generally assumed that the pupularity of the word should increase the Keyword Rank.
- w - perfect coincidence. To obtain this parameter the program queries Google for the exact phrase (that is the search phrase is embedded in quotes ""). For example, if you search Google for the term search engine optimization, the results for the result without quotes will be twice as big as for the phrase in quotes. The searchers do not necessarily look for a search term embedding it in quotes. Thus it is necessary to take into account this parameter when calculating Keyword Rank.
- c - inexact coincidence. This is the number of results, returned by Google as the result of search for the phrase the way it was entered by you. The phrase is not embedded in quotes and the number of results is usually higher (provided it is not a single-word phrase, in which case it is the same).
- ! Factors w and c should decrease Keyword Rank as they themselves increase.
- α - empirical coefficient, obtained by our specialists, where 1<α<3; a = 1 denotes a word of high importance and a = 3 denotes a word of low importance;
Here you should remember that the higher is KR of the word - the better it is for search engine optimization. For example, if you search relevant keywords to the word SEO the first three results, returned by Overture will be:
| Keyword |
Count |
| seo |
46674 |
| company seo |
9444 |
| firm seo |
8475 |
If you add these words to the list the program will query Google for the competition and the resulting table will have two more columns:
| Keyword |
Results |
Competition |
KR |
| seo |
46674 |
13400000 |
7,561 |
| company seo |
9444 |
1570000 |
225,106 |
| firm seo |
8475 |
3270000 |
9,527 |
As you can see in the table above the second phrase "company seo" (or rather "seo company", since overture sorts the words within a phrase alphabetically) has the highest KR. Hence, if you are running a site for a SEO company, it is better to optimize it by this phrase rather than targeting generic a more word "SEO".
Report Tab
The program saves all generated reports here. The reports are grouped by date. To view a report expand the tree date to the left and select the required report.
